KILLER mussels
LOUGH ATTACK OF THE KILLER ZEBRA MUSSELS

A LAKE in the Irish Midlands is being invaded by a species of killer mussel which experts fear could wipe out existing mussel stocks.
The Zebra mussel, which has already caused havoc to home mussels in a number of other Irish lakes, has now spread to Lough Derravaragh in Co Westmeath.
The killer mussel, which is thought to have reached Ireland from Holland, is known to attack and destroy existing stock.
A fisheries board expert said yesterday: "Warning signs have been erected at entrances to the lake urging both owners to ensure they don't carry the dangerous species on the bottom of their boats."
The zebra mussel first appeared in the Black and Caspian seas of Russia and the Ukraine.

BANGALORE: Giving a sensational twist to alleged 'sexual harassment' by a BJP MLA, a nurse claiming to be his 'victim' on Monday released photos showing both kissing each other. At a press conference here, Jayalakshmi, who owns a Nursing College in the city, released photographs which showed her and the MLA Renukacharya engaged in "kissing," lending a new twist nearly two months after she allegedly attempted suicide claiming the legislator was forcing her to marry him against her wishes. "I will release a CD soon to establish my relationship with Renukacharya," Jayalakshmi said and vowed to expose the legislator, a married man. She reiterated that after she made allegations of 'sexual harassment' against Renukacharya, she had been receiving threatening calls and it has not stopped even after complaining to the State Women's Commission. Jayalakshmi said her pleas for security have not met with any response and she was sceptical of getting justice from the State Women's Commission, headed by Pramil Nesargi, a senior BJP leader. When contacted, Renukacharya dismissed the allegations against him as "false" and said he would await the findings of a police inquiry and also the probe into Jayalakshmi's complaint by the state women's commission. Stating that he was contemplating filing a defamation suit against Jayalakshmi for "tarnishing" his image, he said the Women's Commission had asked him not to go to the press on the issue. |

According to sources from South Africa, Yuvraj Singh is believed to be more than just good friends with Mandira Bedi. Buzz is that the cricketer and the commentator have been bonding big time a couple of weeks after the Indian Premiere League took off.
“They were very good friends earlier, but somewhere along the way they got too busy with their schedules and couldn’t really keep in touch,” says our source, adding that Yuvi and Mandy caught up in SA like more than just long-lost buddies. The cricketer and television hottie’s bonding hasn’t gone unnoticed. The two have even made it to the the famous ‘fakeiplplayer’ blog as the author writes, “Sometime during this tournament, the Prince and Sandy Baddy Babe have renewed their long friendship.
They have been seen together in clubs, hotel lobbies and corridors having long discussions on the finer nuances of the beautiful game.” Reportedly, Prince is the blogger’s name for Yuvraj Singh while Sandy Baddy Babe is Mandira Bedi. Now this is something that isn’t too hard to believe.. since the Kings XI Punjab captain is reported to be quite a ladies’ man, considering his partying ways in Mumbai, Delhi etc. That was after he had broken up with long-time girlfriend, actress Kim Sharma.
Yuvi and Kim were in a relationship for four years.. and were reportedly even considering marriage. But it is believed that his mother didn’t exactly approve of an actress bahu right from the time they committed to each other. Initially everything was hunky dory, but after a couple of years, his mother’s dominance began to show.
Yuvi, who’s known to be a maa ka laadla, reportedly gave in under pressure from her.. and gradually he and Kim drifted apart, sometime in the middle of 2007. It’s believed that Yuvi used to call and SMS her till last year, but wisened a year-and-a-half since their split, Kim didn’t revert to him.

In 1993 the California Milk Processor Board began the now famous “Got Milk?” advertising campaign. This new slogan, which teasingly presented the audience with the possibility of taking out cookies or pouring a bowl of cereal, only to discover they had run out of milk, quickly boosted the flagging milk sales in California, instilling in consumers a sense of the necessity of always having milk on hand.
Encouraged by the early success of the advertisement, the Milk Board turned their attention to the large Latino community in California. Unfortunately, after briefly attempting to adapt the original slogan, the Milk Board realized they would have to employ a different tactic if they wished to successfully reach the Spanish-speaking demographic—apparently this new audience was less than responsive to the company’s translation of the “Got Milk?” slogan, which read something along the lines of “Are you lactating?”

Darwinian cuteness
Scientists who study the evolution of visual signaling have identified a wide and still expanding assortment of features and behaviors that make something look cute: bright forward-facing eyes set low on a big round face, a pair of big round ears, floppy limbs and a side-to-side, teeter-totter gait, among many others.
Cute cues are those that indicate extreme youth, vulnerability, harmlessness and need, scientists say, and attending to them closely makes good Darwinian sense. As a species whose youngest members are so pathetically helpless they can’t lift their heads to suckle without adult supervision, human beings must be wired to respond quickly and gamely to any and all signs of infantile desire.
The human cuteness detector is set at such a low bar, researchers said, that it sweeps in and deems cute practically anything remotely resembling a human baby or a part thereof, and so ends up including the young of virtually every mammalian species, fuzzy-headed birds like Japanese cranes, woolly bear caterpillars, a bobbing balloon, a big round rock stacked on a smaller rock, a colon, a hyphen and a close parenthesis typed in succession.
Therefore a cotton wool dog with weird eyes and toliet roll peg leg.
